You can install a Canon printer in two ways: with the installation CDs that come with the product and through the official website of the brand. In addition to the drivers for Windows and macOS, commonly available on the website of manufacturers such as Canon, the user also has the option of using the printers on Linux, through support guaranteed by the free operating system distributions themselves.
Here’s how to install a Canon printer via Wi-Fi on Windows 10. It is worth remembering that the step-by-step was done using the software available on the company’s official website, so if you have the installation CD in hand, you can skip to step 7.
How to install on Windows?
Step 1. Access the official page for your printer model on the Canon website. When the page opens, choose the option “Drivers and software”.
Step 2. Then click on the shortcut “Download driver”.
Step 3. The website has no Portuguese translation, so it is important to pay attention before choosing the options to not download incorrect drivers. Check if the selected system is according to your needs. Software for macOS versions is also available.
Step 4. As we only want the driver, we chose the option “Controllers”. In the “Utilities” tab, you have access to the driver, but also to complementary Canon software that may or may not be useful. If you lost your printer’s CD or bought a model that does not have installation media, it is in this option “Utilities” that you find the complete package of apps and drivers for your all-in-one.
Step 5. Choose the third item in the list (if the list of options is different for your printer, give preference to the item described as “complete package”, or “complete package” in translation. A good tip for those who do not have Spanish sharp is to choose the file size: the biggest one, in MB (megabytes) tends to be the most complete.
Step 7. Make sure your all-in-one is connected to your computer via USB or Wi-Fi. To install, just click on “Printer Setup”. If you have the CD in hand, just follow the installation from here.
Step 8. On the first screen, confirm that the selected region and country are correct.
Step 9. Click “I agree” and “Yes” to proceed.
Step 10. Select “Next” to continue.
Step 11. Here you choose whether to install the printer via Wi-Fi or USB. In our case, we will choose the Wi-Fi.
Step 12. In this screen, the options refer to two types of wireless connection: in the first, and most common, your printer is connected wirelessly to your router. In the second, the printer is connected via Wi-Fi to the PC. Choose and click “Next”. It is worth mentioning that, in “Instructions”, it is possible to learn how to connect the printer to the router.
Step 13. Wait for the software to search for the printer on your network.
Step 14. On the next screen, click on your printer and choose “Next”.
Step 15. The installer will download additional add-on software.
Step 16. In the end, the installer will notify you that the installation was completed successfully and that you can now use your printer.
